More about Life on the Edge & the Ontario Visual History Project The Ontario Visual Heritage Project team (Zachary Melnick, director, and Yvonne Drebert, producer) have created a series of documentary films promoting the history of Ontario towns, regions, and districts.
The Muskoka DVD Life on the Edge: Stories from Muskoka’s Past is one of ten films in the Visual Heritage Project. Other regions covered include Haldimand, Sarnia-Lambton, West Parry Sound, Sudbury, Manitoulin Island and more. To view clips of these films visit the website: www.visualheritage.ca
The Ontario Visual Heritage Project team, with the support of the Muskoka Heritage Foundation and other community groups, has been hard at work since funding for the Muskoka project from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and FedNor was announced in July 2006.
Under the guidance of a steering committee made up of local volunteers from the historical community, over 50 historians were interviewed and the talents of 55 community actors were employed for the 27 re-enactments shot for the film. District museums, libraries and historical groups also played an integral role in the project providing historic shooting locations. They also generously made available reference and archival materials.
Complementary copies are being distributed to local schools and libraries and will be available to borrow free of charge @ Huntsville Public Library. The quality feature-length film is designed to teach, preserve and promote the history of Muskoka in a format suitable to audiences of all ages.
Personal copies of the Muskoka DVD can be purchased for $20.00 at Muskoka Heritage Place, 88 Brunel Road Huntsville or in Bracebridge at the Muskoka Heritage Foundation, 9 Taylor Road. Orders may also be placed by email to info@muskokaheritage.org.
