Film & DVD

Like film and TV? Then the library has a lot to offer you. We have biographies and memoirs of film actors, producers, directors and the like, and also guides to movies such as Leonard Maltin's and Halliwell's.

We also have a wide selection of video recordings from both the big and small screen for you to borrow. Generous help from Partners REEL Alternatives helps us to expand this collection. Why rent videos from a store when you can borrow from the library at no charge if you return films by the due date?

Your library's growing selection includes:

  • Titles from TV programs (150 plus titles)
  • Motion pictures for adults (over 550 titles)
  • Features for children (more than 440 titles)
  • Non-fiction DVDs on topics including exercise, sports, travel, history and more (over 320 titles)

Most nonfiction DVDs are shelved with the adult nonfiction books on the same subject.

To browse the DVD titles the library owns, enter "DVD Collection" as a subject in the catalogue.

While we no longer collect VHS tapes, we still have VHS cassettes:

  • Drama videos (search the catalogue using "Drama videos" as a subject)(over 150 titles remaining)
  • General adult non-fiction (use "Non-fiction Videos" in a subject catalogue search) (over 200 titles remaining)
  • Nature videos (use "Nature Videos" to search in the catalogue) (about 30 titles remiaing)

We also have a small Described-Video collection for the sight-impaired on VHS, cassette and audio CD. These have the sound track with added descriptions on the action between speeches. The VHS films (use "Described movies - Video" to search the catalogue by subject) also have the visuals; the cassettes and CDs have only the augmented sound track (search using "Described movies - Audio" as a subject in the catalogue).
